(Carbon Copy Cloner's back-end relies on rsync I believe, so you can manually work with that if you'd like)Īdditionally, because of how MacOS handles swap etc. What I do (with my older Mac) is to regularly clone my internal drive onto an external drive, and so I know that if anything really goes wrong (including user error where I do something stupid like erasing everything), I don't even need to 'restore' from the backup, I can just boot from it. If the target disk size is larger than the size of source disk of image, you can try to use option -k1 which will create the partition table proportionally in. But I do suggest you consider paying for it and using it for regular backups. There is a free full-featured trial so if you're doing a one-off transfer to a different drive then you never have to pay anything. There are several partitions on the source drive (Its a mac pro running bootcamp with Windows and Mac partitions) - I want to clone only the Windows partition to the SSD, so there is plenty of room on the SSD for what I want to do.
